The Cases Cross by Laksmy J

“Nia, you know how important this case is,” Mr Calvins stated, “After all, you are new employee. This will give me a first impression of you.”

“I understand sir, thank you for this opportunity,” I replied, in a tone I thought was sort of professional. But of course, I needed to be professional this was my first case on the job.

“Thank you for coming, you are dismissed,” he said whilst I was already halfway out the door.

Once I reached my office, my mind was like a bubble about to burst. How could I start? The case was to investigate the murder of Tayla Cross, the top student of Little Thurrock grammar guaranteed to go to Cambridge yet just before she could step foot on that campus her body was found by the river. I didn't want to touch any sensitive spots in interviews, so I did some background digging.

‘Tayla Cross gets highest GCSE scores ... Prodigy student gets full scholarship... Tayla Cross body found...’  The news articles were the same thing again and again this  would give me zero leads. I had to do interviews otherwise I'd get nowhere. The following evening, I went to Mr and Mrs Cross House (no thought of what the outcome would be).

“Hello Mrs Cross and Mr Cross, I have a few questions I would like to ask you, if you have anything to ask me, feel free to do so,” I spoke.

With dry tears and wounded eyes, they nodded. With that sign I began “Okay, where were you, Mrs Cross, on Friday 16th of August at 8:30pm”.

“I had just finished eating dinner and Tay was at a friend's house, or at least that's what she told me,” She replied whilst sniffling.

“Thank you for answering. Okay now Mr Cross where were you at that time?” I asked trying to sound concerned.

“I was at work,” he said.

I was sceptical then. Why was he so mysteriously calm?

“Thank you. Now did Tayla ever mentioned wanting to go far away or perhaps did she seem unhappy? "I said knowing this would cause something.

“No of course not! Tay always had a smile on her face you don't know anything about her! "Mrs Cross shouted whilst Mr Cross was staring at the ground, staying frozen in place.

“Okay. Thank you for your time I will be leaving now.” I said. As I left, I wondered could this be a filicide?
