Is it just a game? by Tess N
You make me confused,
You make me question every move:
You advance your pawn.
And I can’t tell if it’s real or not;
For what was once black and white,
Is now a rainbow of blind love.
But whenever you lead me on -
The knights to my heart keep breaking.
You make me believe you’re not ready,
You make me feel smart:
You advance your queen.
And turns out you’ve played me;
For I was once a shy person,
Is now someone hiding behind a mask.
But whenever you lead me on -
The bishops in my mind betray me.
You make me think we’re more,
You make me hope that’s true:
You call it stalemate.
And I know we’ve both won;
For we used to just smile at sight,
Is now a dream in each other’s eyes.
But whenever you lead me on -
The king shares the key to my soul with you.
You made me fall for you,
You made me want to be around you:
You call it love.
And I can’t believe it started with a game;
For what was once just two friends,
Is now two people madly in love.
But whenever you lead me on -
The game makes me fall for you again.
