In The Rabbit Burrows by Katerina B

In the Rabbit Burrows,
I lay,
Watching as flies gather at my feet,
Like mold,
Hungrily buzzing,
But refraining from doing,
Anything more.

My eyes squint at the sun,
Blinding, burning,
Like liquid gold,
My skin feels sore,
And red,
Rubbing against the sand,
Digging into my bones.

And then,
The rabbits come,
Their pink padded paws,
Leaping,
Across the dunes,
As their red eyes blink,
In the white sun.

Their fur,
Shines in the glittering sand,
Like clouds,
Slow approaching,
Gentle,
And then,
I am gone.
